James F. King MD Endowed Chair in Gastroenterology, Professor of internal medicine and director, division of Gastroenterology and hepatology, Saint Louis University School of Medicine. Dr. Bacon has been interested inn mechanisms of liver injury and fibrogenesis in chronic liver disease, specifically in iron overload. He has also been actively involved in understanding the mechanisms whereby increased iron absorption occurs in patients who have hemochromatosis.
