Dr. Byrnes
is one of world's
top researchers
in systems science.
His research
interests include
adaptive control,
algebraic system
theory, distributed
parameter systems,
linear multivariable
control, nonlinear
control and
the applications
of nonlinear
dynamics in
control and
estimation.
He is the editor
of 11 research
volumes and
the author of
over 200 technical
articles. Dean
of the WU School
of Engineering
since 1991,
he has held
faculty appointments
at Arizona State
University,
where he founded
the Center for
Systems Engineering
Research, Harvard
University and
the University
of Utah. He
has been visiting
professor at
the Royal Institute
of Technology
in Stockholm,
and at universities
in Austria,
France, Germany,
Italy, Japan,
the Netherlands
and the former
USSR. Of St.
Louis, with
a population
the same size
as Singapore,
Dr. Byrnes says,
"There
is no reason
St. Louis can't
be as well known
for our technology
as Singapore."
He is working
with the Center
for Emerging
Technologies
and the Technology
Gateway Alliance
to position
the region as
a technology
leader.
