Dr. Bogosian
heads a department
at Monsanto
Company conducting
basic and applied
research in
agricultural
biotechnology,
primarily focused
on enhancing
the productivity
of animal agriculture.
This research
also includes
the design and
construction
of recombinant
microorganisms
that produce
products of
interest in
fermentation-based
processes.
Dr. Bogosian's
main areas of
expertise include
the biochemistry,
genetics, and
physiology of
microorganisms,
particularly
as applied to
the production
of useful products
by fermentation.
He is also an
expert on infectious
diseases in
animal agriculture,
including anthrax,
hoof and mouth
disease, bovine
spongiform encephalopathy
(BSE, or "mad

such as chronic
wasting disease
(CWD) of deer
in the Midwest
and Creutzfeldt-Jakob
disease (CJD)
of humans, and
of potential
agents of bioterrorism
such as smallpox,
ricin, and botulinum
toxin.
His is also
interested in
the perception
of science and
technology by
the public and
the media. He
says "Scientists
need to be able
