Professor of Biology, Arizona State University

World-renowned genetic biotechnologist, developing recombinant vaccines against agricultural and human pathogens. He is the leader in gene cloning to elucidate virulence and pioneered development of edible vaccines. In the 1970s he introduced concepts of biological containment that allowed completion of previously "banned" recombinant DNA experiments.
