for his research
and treatment
of prostate
cancer and pioneered
the use of the
PSA (percentage
of prostate
specific antigen)
as a first-line-screening
test. His screening
studies of 36,000
men in St. Louis
led to the approval
of the PSA test
and the free
PSA test by
the US Food
and Drug Administration.
He is currently
conducting research
in the molecular
biology and
genetics of
prostate cancer.
He has performed
more than 3,400
prostate cancer
operations,
especially the
nerve-sparing
radical prostatectomy.
