Dr. Landau
has focused
his research
especially upon
the normal and
disturbed neurological
mechanisms of
pain sensation
and voluntary
movement. These
studies have
extended to
the nerves that
control muscle
sensation in
peripheral nerves.
His major clinical
interests have
been the pathophysiology
and treatment
of stroke and
Parkinson’s
disease. His
early work included
the first quantitative
measurements
of local cerebral
blood flow in
different parts
of the brain,
the predecessor
of modern PET
scanning. In
recent years,
he has contributed
crital reviews
of the scientific
basis for many
controversial
concepts of
neurological
pathophysiology,
diagnosis and
treatment.
