As Commander
of the St. Louis
District, U.S.
Army Corps of
Engineers (1973-76),
Mr. Peterson
had engineering
/science related
responsibilities
with significant
impact on the
greater St.
Louis region
including: management
of flood control
and water supply,
and recreational
lakes in Missouri
and Illinois;
operation of
locks and dams
and the maintenance
of a nine-foot
deep navigation
channel on over
400 miles of
the Mississippi,
Illinois and
Kaskaskia rivers;
and oversight
of Federal environmental
policy laws
to protect the
region's natural
resources within
a 28,000 square
mile area. In
1979, he joined
Booker Associates,
Engineers/Architects/Planners
and managed
several large
design projects,
including the
St. Louis MetroLink
Light Rail System.
