Curators' Professor of Biology, University of Missouri-St. Louis
A leader in his field, Dr. Ricklefs has "helped us gain a greater understanding of evolutionary history and environmental biology." (Raven) His two ecology textbooks (Ecology, 1973, now in its 4th edition, and The Economy of Nature, 1976, now in its 5th edition) have set the standard for almost 30 years. He has contributed greatly to studies of species diversity and the aging process, with a focus in the field of ornithology. His research on avian development, reproduction and demography have earned him an international reputation.
