for his pioneering
research in

receptor-medicated
endocytosis,
a process that
enables selected
protein molecules
to enter cells.
Inside the cells,
the proteins
provide the
cell with nutrients
or signals that
regulate its
activities.
Dr. Schwartz
developed the
Markey Pathway,
a graduate education
program for
educating biomedical
scientist trainees
in fundamentals
of human pathology.
He is the Distinguished
Visiting Professor
of Cell Biology
at the University
of Utrecht in
the Netherlands.
