The Albert P. and Blanche Y. Greensfelder Professor of Mechanics, Washington University
Dr. Szabo has made pioneering contributions to the field of finite element methods, a computerized process of subdividing an object into a mesh of elements and computing the stresses and deformations they undergo, which engineers worldwide use every day. His research.emphasis is in the area of numeral mechanics, the mechanics of solid bodies and the finite element method. His research has applications in a virtual fabrication environment for aircraft components and in new 3-D medical imaging systems to improve design of artificial limbs.
